The Future of African Businesses

Uzapoint was founded in 2020 with one mission: to help African businesses succeed.

The idea started close to home. One of our co-founders grew up watching his parents run a small retail shop that supported their family. Despite years of hard work, the business eventually collapsed because they lacked clear visibility into sales, cash flow, and overall performance. That story reflects a challenge millions of entrepreneurs face across Africa: not a lack of ambition, but a lack of the right tools to manage and grow.

SMEs make up over 90% of businesses in Africa and create more than 80% of employment, yet nearly 50% fail within their first five years. Many still rely on manual processes, disconnected systems, and limited access to financing, technology, and business insights.

That is why we built Uzapoint. Our name comes from the Swahili word "Uza," meaning to sell, and "Point," the place where every transaction happens. Uzapoint is where businesses sell, manage, and grow.

Today, Uzapoint brings business management, artificial intelligence, digital payments, embedded financial services, tax compliance, and strategic partnerships into one platform. We support thousands of businesses across African markets, and we are building the operating system for SMEs in Africa.

The AI Operating System for SMEs in Africa

Just as every computer needs an operating system, every business needs a central platform to run its operations.

Uzapoint connects sales, inventory, accounting, purchasing, customer management, reporting, payments, financing, insurance, tax compliance, and AI-powered business intelligence in one ecosystem.

Instead of juggling disconnected tools, businesses work from a single source of truth that improves efficiency, visibility, and decision-making.

  • One platform.
  • One ecosystem.
  • One trusted partner helping African businesses succeed.

Abraham Mbuthia is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Uzapoint, the Operating System for SMEs in Africa. He is an entrepreneur, technology leader, and ecosystem builder passionate about empowering African businesses with the tools, financial services, and opportunities they need to start, grow, and scale.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT) from Strathmore University, where his passion for technology and entrepreneurship began to take shape. His entrepreneurial journey, however, was inspired much earlier by his family's retail business, which struggled and eventually collapsed due to limited visibility into business performance, cash flow, and financial management. That experience shaped his belief that many small businesses don't fail because of a lack of ambition, they fail because they lack the right technology, insights, and access to opportunities. Today, with nearly 50% of SMEs in Africa failing within their first five years, Abraham is committed to changing that reality.

In 2020, he co-founded Uzapoint with the vision of building a single platform that simplifies business management for SMEs. Under his leadership, Uzapoint has evolved into one of Africa's leading SME technology platforms, combining business management software, Artificial Intelligence, digital payments, embedded financial services, tax compliance, and strategic partnerships into one integrated ecosystem serving businesses across multiple African markets.

Beyond Uzapoint, Abraham is also the Co-Founder of MyZola, a personal financial management (PFM) platform that helps individuals better manage their finances, develop healthier financial habits, and achieve long-term financial wellness. He is also involved in building innovative fintech solutions that expand financial inclusion and simplify access to digital financial services for businesses and consumers across Africa.

Abraham's leadership and entrepreneurial journey have earned global recognition. He was named the 1st Runner-Up at Africa Business Heroes 2025, one of Africa's most prestigious entrepreneurship competitions organized by Alibaba Philanthropy and the Jack Ma Foundation. Uzapoint has also been recognized through the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, and the TotalEnergies Startupper Challenge, among other leading innovation and entrepreneurship programs. In addition, Abraham was recognized among the Business Daily Top 40 Under 40 Men for his contribution to entrepreneurship and technology.

His vision is bold: to serve 10 million SMEs across Africa and unlock US$10 billion in SME growth by 2050, enabling entrepreneurs to build stronger businesses, create millions of jobs, and accelerate Africa's economic transformation through technology.
